Business Improvement Area (BIA)
A BIA is a geographic area in a municipality. Each BIA has a board of management which is an organization set up to proved business promotion and improvement functions. The Township of Woolwich has one Business Improvement Area for Elmira. The BIA allows local business people and property owners to join together and with the support of the municipality, organize, finance and carry out physical improvement and promote economic development in their district.
Chemtura Public Advisory Committee (CPAC)
The Chemtura (Chemtura Canada Co./Cie.) Public Advisory Committee (CPAC) was established to address historical, current and potential future environmental concerns with the operations of Crompton (Chemtura Canada Co..Cie.) in Elmira, and to provide information and make recommendations to the Council of the Township of Woolwich. Meetings are open to the public and are typically held the third Monday of alternate months in Council Chambers at the Township of Woolwich.
Committee of Adjustment
The Committee of Adjustment is a committee appointed by Council for a four year term. The Committee makes decisions on all applications for a minor variance to the zoning by-law and on all applications for consents (severances, easements, right-of-ways).
Grand River Accessibility Advisory Committee (GRAAC)
The Province of Ontario proclaimed the Ontarians with Disabilities Act in September of 2002 to improve opportunities for people with disabilities and provide for their involvement in the identification, removal and prevention of barriers to their full participation in the life of the Province. The Act requires municipal councils to set up accessibility advisory committees with 50% of members being persons with disabilities. The Grand River Accessibility Advisory Committee fulfills this requirement of Provincial legislation by providing advice about accessibility issues to the Council of the Township of Woolwich in addition to the Councils of the Cities of Kitchener and Waterloo and the Townships of North Dumfries and Wellesley. Property Standards Committee
The Property Standards Committee hears appeals of Orders to Comply issued by the Property Standards Officer to bring a property into compliance with the Property Standards By-law. They can quash, modify or uphold an Order to Comply.
Sign Variance Committee
The Sign Variance Committee of the Township is appointed as a standing committee of Council for the purpose of inquiring into and reporting on any applications for minor variances from the provisions of the Sign By-law. The Sign Variance Committee may recommend that an application be refused or that such relief as the Committee considers appropriate be granted, either absolutely or subject to conditions.
Township of Woolwich Environmental Enhancement Committee (TWEEC)
The Township of Woolwich Environmental Enhancement Committee (TWEEC) was initiated in 2004 with the primary objective of improving the environment in Woolwich Township. The Township of Woolwich has allocated funds and staff resources and has partnered with Woolwich Healthy Communities to support this initiative. The 11 volunteer committee members are appointed for a four-year term co-incident with the term of Council.
