Interested in Becoming a Volunteer Firefighter for the Proposed Breslau Fire Station???

The Master Fire Plan for the Township of Woolwich proposes that a Fire Station be established in the Breslau area.

Before a final decision can be made regarding whether a Fire Station should be built, there are a number of factors that need to be examined, including that the potential exists to adequately staff the proposed Station.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer fire fighter, and you live in the Breslau area, the Township is looking to hear from men and women who are prepared to respond to a variety of emergency situations.

To become a volunteer firefighter in the Township you must be physically fit and be able to work under strenuous conditions. You must enjoy working with the public and be willing to complete a training program. You will be required to attend bi-weekly meeting/training sessions and be required to respond frequently to emergencies within your station area.

For further details, contact the Township Fire Chief at 519-664-2887 extension 222.

H1N1 Flu Virus Alert

As of May 1, Region of Waterloo Public Health is now referring to the new influenza virus as H1N1 Flu Virus.

Visit the Pandemic Influenza Planning website of Region of Waterloo's Public Health at www.region.waterloo.on.ca for information.

There are everyday actions you can take to stay healthy!

  • Cover your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze by using a tissue or coughing into your sleeve or upper arm. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand rub/sanitizers are also effective.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread easily that way.
  • Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
  • Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people.  People are most infectious as their symptoms start.  If you get sick, Public Health recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
  • If your symptoms worsen contact your health care practitioner.
