Q. Am I required to licence my dog?
A. The Animal Control By-law 75-2006 states that every owner of a dog shall licence and register such dog with the Township. Any dog owner found not adhering to the By-law will be fined.

Q. Am I required to licence my cat?
A. The Township of Woolwich does not currently licence cats. However, we do recommend that cat owners have a name tag with a phone number on their cats to enable them to be returned home.

Q. When do I have to licence my dog?
A. You are required to purchase a dog tag/licence for your dog upon moving to the Township or within 21 days of becoming a dog owner. Tags must be purchased annually prior to April 15th as they expire within the calendar year.

Q. What are the associated fees for dog tags?
A. Dog tags purchased prior to April 15th in a calendar year are $25.00 for neutered/spayed dogs and $35.00 for non-neutered/non-spayed dogs. After April 15th, as additional $15.00 applies unless a bill of sale is provided to show the dog was purchased after April 15th.

Q. Where can I purchase dog tags/licences?
A. Dog tags are available at the following locations:
- The Village Pet Food Shoppe, 10 Church Street West, Elmira
- Creature Comfort Pet Emporium, 1553 King Street North, St. Jacobs
- The Township of Woolwich, 24 Church Street West, Elmira
- Eldale Vet Clinic, 150 Church Street West, Elmira
- Breslau Animal Hospital, 2057 Victoria Street North (Unit 3), Breslau

Q. What do I need to licence my dog?
A. You are required to produce a valid rabies inoculation certification when purchasing a new licence or re-newing your licence.

Q. Who do I call if I have found a dog tag?
A. Call Council and Information Services at 519-669-6009 if you have found a dog tag.

Q. How many dogs am I permitted?
A. No more than three (3) dogs are permitted on a property.

Q. Who should I call about a stray or injured dog?
A. Call the Animal Control Officer at 519-669-6106 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday. After hours, stray dogs can be taken to the Kitchener Waterloo Humane Society located at 250 Riverbend Drive in Kitchener and place in the after hours outdoor pens.

Q. Who do I call about a stray or injured cat?
A. Currently, the Township of Woolwich does not offer a pick up service for stray or injured cats. Cats can be taken to the Kitchener Waterloo Humane Society located at 250 Riverbend Drive in Kitchener.

Q. Who can I call about raccoons and other wildlife (skunks, etc.) in my yard?
A. There is no pick-up service for nuisance or injured wildlife in the Township of Woolwich. The K-W Humane Society will also not respond to wildlife calls. Residents may contact a private wildlife control contractor at their own expense to deal with nuisance or injured wildlife.

Q. Who do I call about a dog barking excessively in my neighbourhood?
A. Noise concerns can be addressed by calling the By-law Enforcement line at 519-669-6106 and leaving a message. A By-law Officer will ask that you provide information regarding the noise by completed the log form which can be found by clicking here.

Q. Who do I call with cruely concerns toward an animal?
A. Cruelty or neglect concerns can be addressed through the Kitchener Waterloo Humane Society by calling 519-745-5615.

Q. What should I do if myself or my pet have been bit by a dog?
A. In the event of a dog bite, seek medical help. It is important that the bite is recorded with the Health Unit and the wound is examined. They need to be sure that the dog and the person bit have up to date immunizations. Call the Township of Woolwich Enforcement Department, please leave a message and your call will be returned during business hours. Please leave your name, phone number, address, name or location of the dog owner. If the dog is posing an immediate danger to the public, please notify police at 519-570-3000
