The Township of Woolwich issues two tax bills per year. You will receive your interim tax bill in February and your final tax bill in July.

Assessment Information

The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) is responsible for assessing all properties in Ontario.

MPAC provides these assessments to municipalities in order to determine your property taxes.

Please contact MPAC for questions about your tax assessment.

Change of Address

You can notify Financial Services in writing to change your mailing address.

Change of Ownership

The Township must receive legal documentation to change ownership. In most cases this will come from your lawyer or Municipal Property Assessment Corporation.

Charity Rebates

Charitable organizations may be eligible for a tax rebate if they:

  • have a valid registration number; or

Penalty, Interest, and Fees

Penalty and interest

Penalty and interest charges of 1.25 % will be added to installments not paid by the due date. Further penalty and interest of 1.25% will be added the first day of each month the installment remains unpaid. Penalty and interest will not be waived for any reason. Failure to receive a tax bill does not excuse a taxpayer from their responsibility for payment.

Tax certificates

The fee for a tax certificate is $55. Payment must be received by the Township before the tax certificate will be issued.

Supplementary Tax Bill

Supplementary tax bills are issued when you make an addition or improvement to your property. Most common examples are newly built structures that were not previously assessed.

The Township is not provided with the specific details regarding your supplemental assessment. Please contact Municipal Property Assessment Corporation to discuss your supplemental assessment.

Supplemental tax bills are in addition to any other tax bill you received. You must pay your supplemental tax bill, and any other tax bill, in full as indicated by the due date to avoid penalty.

If you are enrolled in a pre-authorized payment plan, you must make arrangements to pay your supplemental tax bill yourself. Supplemental tax bills will not be automatically withdrawn from your bank account.

If your mortgage company pays your taxes, they will receive this bill as well. It is recommended you contact your mortgage company to make sure they will be paying on your behalf.

Tax Rates and Tax Capping

The municipal tax rates are determined after the Council of the Township of Woolwich and Region of Waterloo approve their budgets. The Province of Ontario is responsible for determining the education tax rates. The find out your property taxes, multiple your appropriate tax rate by your property assessment.
