Snow Events and Winter Parking Ban

Declaring a Snow Event
The declaration of a snow event is determined through the use of credible weather forecasts and will review substantial snowfalls or freezing rain events. Parking is prohibited on any township road at any time (day or night) when the Township of Woolwich declares a snow event. Vehicles parked on-street during a significant snow event can be ticketed and possibly towed. Snow events are not limited to certain months. For example, if forecasts predict a winter storm in May, the Township could declare a snow event.

Snow Events |
Snow events are in effect only when posted on the Township website. Not all snowfalls that result in plowing warrant a snow event. Snow events can start at 5:00p.m. or midnight and remain in effect for 24 hours or or until a cancellation is issued. EnforcementEnforcement will done both proactively and in conjunction with clearing operations. Vehicles will not be tagged and/or towed based on calls from the public. The fine amount for parking on-street during a snow event is $60. Towing will only occur to the degree necessary to allow the snow clearing equipment access to the street to perform required duties. As such, it is possible that some cars will be towed from a street while others are not, even though all the cars are in violation of the by-law. Vehicle owners are responsible for all fees associated with towing in addition to the fine amount. For information on snow plowing and sidewalk clearing, visit our Road and Sidewalks page. |
Winter Parking Ban |
Between December 1st until March 31st every year, parking is prohibited on Township roads during 4:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. It is important to avoid parking your vehicle on the roads during those hours to allow for effective snow clearing, sanding and salting operations. This increases community safety and eases the access for emergency responders or Operations staff. Woolwich Operations Staff maintain 8 snow plow routes across the Township. For more information, visit the Roads and Sidewalks Page.
During the Winter Parking Ban, the Township Enforcement Services Division may ticket vehicles not in compliance. Enforcement of the ban is not weather dependent and tickets may be issued at any time in any weather. The Region of Waterloo does not permit overnight parking from 2:30 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. on main roads managed by them. Information regarding Regional Roads can be found on the Region's website. |
