2022 Election Preparation |
Township staff are preparing for the 2022 Municipal and School Board Elections. Election Day will be October 24, 2022. Woolwich Council has already considered and approved the existing three-ward structure and number of Councillors. This means that if you haven't moved, you will be voting for the same municipal offices as in the 2018 election: Mayor and your ward Councillor(s). |
Register to Vote
The Voters' List for the 2022 Municipal Election is compiled by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC). After September 1, 2022, you must apply to the Township Clerk if you wish to add your name to the Voters' List or correct your information. Please contact the Corporate Services department at 519-669-6000 for more information. If you wish to change your school support after September 1, you must contact MPAC directly.
Important dates
- May 2, 2022: candidate nominations open
- August 19, 2022: candidate nominations close at 2:00 p.m.
- August 22, 2022: nominations certified and list of candidates announced
- October 14, 2022: start of voting via internet and telephone
- October 24, 2022: Election Day (paper ballots, internet, and telephone voting)
- November 14, 2022: start of Council orientation
- November 28, 2022: Inaugural Council Meeting and beginning of Council term

The Township has contracted the services of Scytl Canada Inc. for internet and telephone voting. Scytl's product Invote Gov ensures the secrecy and end-to-end security of the voting process. |
General Information
Municipal Elections are the foundation of the local democratic process and are held every four years in accordance with the Municipal Elections Act, 1996. The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing has a variety of resources relating to municipal elections. Additional resources can be found through the Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks, and Treasurers of Ontario (AMCTO), such as the AMCTO Elections Calendar.

Municipal Election Compliance Audit Committee (MECAC) |

Woolwich Township has partnered with the Region of Waterloo; Cities of Cambridge, Guelph, Kitchener, and Waterloo; and the Townships of North Dumfries, Wellesley, and Wilmot to form a joint Municipal Election Compliance Audit Committee (MECAC) for the term 2022-2026. The role of MECAC is to:
If an eligible voter believes a Candidate or Third Party Advertiser has contravened the election finance rules, the voter may apply for a compliance audit of the relevant campaign finances. The application must be made in writing and must set out the reasons why the voter believes the Candidate or Third Party Advertiser has contravened the rules. An application for a compliance audit must be submitted to the Township Clerk who conducted the Election within 90 days of the deadline to file the campaign financial statement. |
