Township Logo

Engineering Services is responsible for various construction projects throughout the Township.

Workers are out repairing and improving our roadways and need your cooperation to ensure they make it home safely to their families each day.

Drivers are asked to follow these steps to make our roadways safe for everyone:

  • Obey road closure signs and follow posted detour routes
  • Road closures are applicable to vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists
  • Obey the signs and flag persons
  • Slow down in construction zones - drive at the posted reduced speed limit
  • Pay attention - don't text or look at your phone
  • Keep a safe distance between you and the vehicle in front of you - sudden stops are common in construction zones

For questions regarding Region of Waterloo closures, please visit their construction project page for more information.

Barnswallow Drive Reconstruction Project

The Township of Woolwich is currently working with GHD Limited on the design of Barnswallow Drive for reconstruction.

The scope of the Barnswallow Drive work includes the replacement of the existing underground storm and sanitary sewers, the addition of a new trunk sanitary sewer, replacement of the full pavement structure, and the installation of curb and gutter and sidewalks along both sides of the street. As well, infrastructure will be installed to accommodate future development in this area.

Breslau East Connector Road Environmental Assessment

The Township of Woolwich completed an Environmental Assessment for a new connector road between Old Breslau and New Breslau. The study area was generally located south and east of the existing Breslau community, immediately south of the new Thomasfield Homes mixed use/residential development and the CN Rail corridor, and north of Menno Street.

This Municipal Class EA investigated and evaluated alternative solutions for the transportation infrastructure that is required to provide connectivity between the existing and new areas of the Breslau Community, and the proposed employment land adjacent to Greenhouse Road.

Breslau Wet Well Upgrades - Class Environmental Assessment

The Township of Woolwich (Township) currently discharges wastewater from the Breslau
Settlement to the City of Kitchener (City) owned Breslau Wet Well. The current development
in Breslau is approaching the threshold of the Breslau Wet Well approved capacity and the
system needs to be upgraded.

The Township is seeking to identify pumping station alternatives, including expanding or relocating
the existing Breslau Wet Well. The preferred solution will be determined by assessing
the objectives of protection of the natural and built environments, minimal disruptions to
residents and surrounding areas, engaging a broad range of stakeholders, and optimizing the
systems’ capacity and life-cycle cost. while documenting the study process in compliance with
the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Schedule “B” process.

Consolidated Operations and Maintenance Facility - Class Environmental Assessment

The Township of Woolwich has initiated a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Study (Class EA) for a new consolidated facility to centrally locate the Township’s Operations and Maintenance Staff and equipment. The study will explore the benefits of new and shared facilities for staff and equipment, applying expected growth rates to these facilities to look at the long term viability of any alternatives reviewed. The results of this study are expected to provide the most efficient and cost effective solution to house the Operations and Maintenance staff and equipment, in one or multiple locations in the Township of Woolwich. This study will follow a comprehensive, sound and open planning process in order to recognize and accommodate all concerns for the alternative solutions to be evaluated.
