National AccessAbility Week (May 25 to May 31) and the Coalition of Inclusive Municipalities

The Township of Woolwich is excited to announce its’ recognition and participation in this years’ National AccessAbility week which takes place annually during the last week of May. This year’s theme is “Breaking barriers together: paving the way for an inclusive future.

Woolwich has been committed to improving access to public spaces for abilities of all kinds for a number of years and has taken steps to become a more inclusive municipality where anyone can live, play and work.

One way in which Woolwich has paved the way for an inclusive future was by joining the Coalition of Inclusive Municipalities at the end of 2023. This initiative, supported by the Canadian Commission for UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), aims to fight against discrimination, promoting fairness and respect for everyone.

The Coalition of Inclusive Municipalities provides an opportunity to learn from other communities across Canada. It allows Woolwich to share ideas, resources, and best practices on how to promote human rights and inclusivity. By becoming a part of this Coalition, Woolwich has committed to investing time and resources to create more welcoming and inclusive communities as part of a network of municipalities seeking to improve policies against racism, discrimination, exclusion and intolerance.
