The Township Fire Chief, has lifted the total open-air fire ban effective immediately following a significant improvement in air quality across the Township.
Due to the current Air Quality Alert, a burn ban will take effect on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at 12:00 a.m.
Effective at that time, all active burn permits will be suspended, and no new burn permits will be issued until further notice. Residential and open-air burning will not be permitted while the ban remains in effect.
Woolwich Council has made the decision to discontinue the Elmira sidewalk snow clearing program at its June 23rd Council meeting. The decision follows a review of service performance, costs, and consistent resident feedback from the most recent winter season, which identified significant challenges with the program. These challenges included contractor performance issues, documented impacts to private property, and ongoing concerns from residents about the reliability of service.
The historic Glasgow Street South steel truss bridge in Conestogo is currently closed to vehicular traffic and will remain closed until after construction on the Scheifele Bridge on Northfield Drive is completed by the Region of Waterloo.
