Susan Weber: My Woolwich Roots
Susan Weber grew up on a farm between Conestogo and St. Jacobs. Other than going away for post secondary school and a couple years working 45 minutes from home, Susan has lived her whole life here in Woolwich Township. Susan began painting for her 60th birthday. She wanted a painted corn hole game and took it upon herself to see what she could do. This is also why her first seven paintings are on corn hole style boards. She likes the design element of business with the bottom and then the top is a large swath of colour with a hole cut out and a story being told.
Susan started using brushes from Walmart and the Dollar Store. At the end of the second painting she added some small fish with a round wooden tooth pick. During COVID when Belong Together came out with their tile program it was here that she started to develop her style of painting. These were great for experimenting and she progressed quickly to colour blocking with a small brush and then painting the details with a round wooden toothpick. Every painting tells a story. It is tedious and time consuming and often frustrating. In all of her paintings, she paints her life and all that she is connected to. In the end it makes her happy.
