Glasgow Street South Bridge Closure
Glasgow Street South Bridge Closure – Conestogo
The historic Glasgow Street South steel truss bridge in Conestogo is currently closed to vehicular traffic and will remain closed until after construction on the Scheifele Bridge on Northfield Drive is completed by the Region of Waterloo.
Built in 1886 by the Hamilton Bridge and Tool Company and relocated to its current location in 1928, the Glasgow Street bridge is the last remaining pin-connected steel truss bridge in Woolwich still capable of carrying vehicle traffic. Following a major rehabilitation in 2021–2022, supported by federal and provincial funding, the bridge was converted to one-way traffic to help extend its lifespan.
As this heritage structure approaches 140 years of service, the temporary closure is a preventative measure to protect the bridge from potential impacts related to increased traffic and construction activity associated with the Northfield Drive project.
Thank you for your patience as we work to preserve one of Woolwich’s most significant historic landmarks for future generations.
