Statement from Mayor Shantz - 2026 Election

Dear residents, constituents, businesses, and visitors of the Township of Woolwich

Over the past many years, it has been one of the greatest honours of my life to serve the residents of the Township of Woolwich.  First as a Waterloo Region District School Board Trustee (including two years as Chair), then as a Township Councillor, and for what will be 12 years as your Mayor.

These roles have given me the opportunity to connect with so many incredible people, to listen, to learn, and to work together to build the strong, caring community we are so proud to call home.

After much reflection, I have made the difficult decision not to seek re-election. This is not an easy choice, but it is the right time for me to step away from public life and spend more time with my family and friends.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to the community leaders, volunteers, staff, and residents who give so much of themselves to make Woolwich such a special place. Your passion and commitment are what truly shape this Township.

I leave this role with a full heart and great confidence in the future of Woolwich. We are well positioned for continued success, and I know our community will choose thoughtful and capable leadership in the years ahead.

Thank you for the trust, kindness, and support you have shown me throughout this journey. It has truly been a privilege to serve you.
