Township of Woolwich Passes 2026 Water and Wastewater Budget

Woolwich, ON – Township of Woolwich Council has adopted the 2026 Water and Wastewater Budget, reinforcing the Township’s commitment to long-term financial sustainability, regulatory compliance, and the continued delivery of safe, reliable water and wastewater services.

The 2026 budget ensures the Township can maintain and renew critical water and wastewater infrastructure, meet evolving provincial regulations, and responsibly plan for future growth. Investments focus on system maintenance, lifecycle replacements, and reserve contributions to address aging infrastructure and avoid larger cost pressures in the future.

“I want to thank Council and staff for their diligence and collaboration throughout this process,” said Mayor Sandy Shantz. “Water and wastewater services are essential to our community’s health, environmental stewardship, and economic development. This budget ensures we continue to invest responsibly in the infrastructure that supports residents and businesses every day.”

The approved budget reflects rising operational and capital costs, distribution, collection, regulatory requirements, and long-term asset management. Reserve contributions remain a key component of the financial strategy, ensuring that future infrastructure replacements are funded in a stable and predictable manner.

Key highlights of the 2026 Water and Wastewater Budget include:

  • Continued investment in lifecycle replacement of pipes, pumps, and equipment
  • Contributions to water and wastewater reserves to strengthen long-term financial sustainability
  • Funding to maintain compliance with provincial water quality and environmental standards
  • Infrastructure investments that support growth while protecting existing ratepayers

The Township’s water and wastewater systems operate on a user-pay model, meaning rates are structured to fully fund the costs of operating, maintaining, and renewing the systems without relying on property taxes. This approach ensures transparency and accountability while protecting the long-term viability of essential services.

“This budget represents a responsible and forward-looking approach,” added Mayor Shantz. “By planning ahead and maintaining strong reserves, we are protecting both current and future ratepayers while ensuring reliable service for our growing community.”
